How AI is being utilised by extremists
AI is something that is becoming an increasingly present part of our every day lives, and I'm sure to nobody's surprise it is being utilised by those with more nefarious ideas. Examples of this include:
• mass disinformation campaigns
• feeding pieces of radicalising propaganda (online)
• to gather information on potential targets
• to find instructions to support terrorist attacks
• malware
• and to create memes and propaganda for mass sharing
This technology is advancing at pace with much focus on the positives of AI but we certainly need to be alive to the negative impact of it and how it might be used to radicalise.

Working with the National Counter-Terrorism Security Office and sector partners, the Department for Education recently launched the Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) for Education e-Learning course and the Protective Security and Preparedness for education settings non-statutory guidance.
In addition, the ACT for Youth lesson plans are also available to support you in teaching young people about the importance of RUN, HIDE, TELL, and there is a range of free to access advice and guidance available from The National Protective Security Authority (NPSA).

The 9/11 Education Programme have released their training offer for schools and educators. Each twilight training session is completely free, 90 minutes long and delivered by an expert guest speaker.
All sessions take place between 4:00pm to 5:30pm to enable teachers to access the sessions. This Autumn term, they will be covering the following topics:
- Fundamental British values: how effective is your delivery?
- Responding to conspiracy theory, disinformation and dangerous ideas in the classroom
- An introduction to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s teaching resources and programmes
- Creating safe spaces for challenging conversations
- Exploring current extremist ideologies
